Ah…My baby is going to preschool!

September 3rd, 2008

The school district called.  We have a meeting with them on Tuesday, Sept 9th and she starts school on Sept 15th.  I got so excited to hear that she qualified but now I am on the verge of a panic attack.  Alan says that Erin is ready for school but the bus may be scary.  I am tearing up just thinking about the anxiety she may have during her first week.  It’s kind of funny that yesterday I was just at the bus stop with all the moms in the neighborhood.  A few of the kids started kindergarten this year.  I felt like I should have brought tissues b/c of the emotions.  It’s my turn today…I am getting all emotional over Erin’s anticipated first day.  I will most definitely be a mess on the 15th.

The district provides transportation but Alan will take her for her first day.  I am going to ask my brother Sean to follow the bus when she rides it for the first time….just to make sure she doesn’t panic and to calm my nerves too.  With Brennan and Larkin, we had them in daycare and left them with babysitters.  I have left Erin with my mother a few times and then with a neighbor once.  Separation anxiety happens to babies and moms!  Oh crap, someone please pass the Kleenex.

Update: A fellow FOP mother, Karen Munro, wrote a document outlining her daughter’s medical issues when Miranda started daycare.  Karen shared her document and I tweaked it for Erin.  I’ve posted it here.  I sent the document to the school’s psychologist.  Alan will cover any pending issues and questions in Tuesday’s meeting.

Wishing the very best of luck to Erin as she begins preschool. It’s a momentous occasion for sure. I hope with all my heart that she will do well.

Also hoping for no adverse consequences from bumping her head after rolling off the bed. NOTE – Miranda sleeps in my bed when my husband is away on business. I always put a bunched up quilt and or pillows to make a soft “wall” on the side she could potentially roll off. She would have to actually roll upwards to get over it, which is unlikely.
