Barbie’s Diamond Castle

September 22nd, 2008

Erin is doing quite well now-a-days.  Her right eye is still a bit black-and-blue but it’s fading.  She actually told Alan yesterday, “Daddy, I got black on my eye!”  No new swellings and she’s in a great mood.  Oh, except for today.  She came home from school really grumpy so she went straight to bed.

Last week, these annoying commercials of Barbie’s new DVD Barbie’s Diamond Castlecaught her eye.  She calls it “the princess castle.”  I just happened to walk by the rental stand at the local grocery store and the DVD was staring at me.  Yes, I rented it.  Alan and Uncle Sean are so happy I did.  Although the movie is annoying for adults, Erin absolutely loves it.  When she is dealing with swellings or other bruises, she can’t be a kid.  Now she’s dancing in the living room and twirling like the princesses in the movie.  Brennan and Larkin watch it with her on Saturday morning.  The boys were excited to share with us that Barbie has two new movies coming out soon…yea!  With Brennan we went through Bob the Builder (even saw the live show) and Larkin’s very favorite was The Wiggles.  We spent $100 for the family to see The Wiggles live just for Larkin.  All he did was scream throughout the show.  Larkin and I had to sit near the bathrooms and watch the show on closed circuit television…whoo hoo!

This is the first time we have had a “girlie” movie besides the classic Disney DVDs (which she has yet to get into).  When we get back from our trip out east, Erin and I will go and see The Backyardigans Live show.  I thought for sure she would be Uniqua from the Backyardigans for Halloween but I might need to get her a Princess Liana dress.  Ugh, she watched it five times yesterday.  Alan, Sean, and myself caught each other actually watching it at times.  Alan says after a while the movie has grown on him.  Sean most definitely disagrees.

I am enjoying watching her be a three year old.  She’s loves to do pretend play.  She walks around with a Cheetah Girls play cell phone.  Her favorite is to pretend to call her Umma Mike (Uncle Mike).  She called him all day yesterday having real conversations.  As we were going to bed last night she called Umma Mike and asked to speak with Nikki (his girlfriend).  Apparently pretend Umma Mike said Nikki wasn’t there.  Well, Erin wasn’t having it and told him, “Go get Nikki now!  I say good night to Nikki!”  Funny, those play cell phones are made to slam shut just like real ones.

Can anyone say, “Ice Age?” But I did learn to really like it.

Totally forgot about “Ice Age!” That wasn’t too bad for parents to sit through. Let me tell you…”The Diamond Castle” is way worse! There aren’t any cool one-liners to remember in this movie. Next week, “The Diamond Castle” will be playing on your DVD player! :-)

So now I understand! We went to Albertson’s last night and right inside the door is the “red door” video rental. It had a picture of the “barbie Castle” video. Riley imediately looked up and said “princess Castle” over and over in a very excited way. Obviously I was confused!! But no more! Sue- they also had a Wow, wow Wubzy video to rent. I knew you’d want to know!

Yes! That’s exactly where I rented it! Oh my goodness, she hasn’t asked for it in two days. I did end up getting the DVD.

You know, I can handle Wubzy…but sappy songs and bad accents…oooh…that’s tough to swallow.
