A big change (and so much work)

Hello friends. It’s been a few weeks since I blogged. I’m feeling guilty… But in my defence, I have a good excuse. You see, we’re in the midst of moving! Yep, we’ve bought a new family home, and the last month has been a whirlwind of packing, moving boxes, organizing renovations, patching up broken stuff in old home, and ever so much more.

The big day, MOVING DAY, is a week from this Monday. Before that date, we have to get as much of the smaller stuff out of the house as possible, and prepare for (and do) an open house on our current place next weekend. Today, like all previous weekend days in the past month, will be devoted to that cause.

So, now of course I must explain the connection to Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva, seeing as how the subject of this blog is FOP… The reason we’re moving is that our current home – a 3 storey townhouse – is miserably non-accessible for our daughter, Miranda. There are simply way, way too many stairs for her, especially given the persistent and long-lasting left leg flare-ups our girl has been experiencing in the first half of this year. It’s time for a house with living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms all on one level, and that’s what we bought. Now, the house does actually have two levels, one of which is sort of a partial basement, but that floor has just laundry, a rec room, some storage, and one of the four bedrooms – everything else is on the main floor.

Still, the house isn’t immediately wheelchair accessible… To get it to that state, we’re getting some landscaping done in the backyard. We’ll be getting a concrete path leading to a newly-installed porch wheelchair lift, and that lift will bring the user up to deck level, where there is both a kitchen door and a sliding patio door.

Anyway, no rest for the wicked… We’re getting started pretty soon here, so I will leave you with a randomly chosen recent photo of Miranda. Wish us luck!
